Islamabad: The Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights, Saba Sadiq, emphasized the importance of ending gender-based violence according to the global theme, ‘Unity! Invest in ending violence against women and girls. He said this while speaking at the Pakistan National Council of Arts on the occasion of the launch of the 16-day campaign against violence against women and girls. Mrs. Sadiq highlighted Pakistan’s strong legal and policy framework to combat violence against women. He called for important reforms, including the Anti-Harassment Act, enforcement of women’s property rights, and establishment of helplines and shelters. It also acknowledged efforts to empower women economically and socially through targeted programs despite cultural barriers. Calling for collective action, Mrs. Sadiq urged the federal and provincial governments, NGOs, and international organizations to work together for a society free from fear and violence. Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to gender equality, she concluded, “Let us unite to ensure justice, dignity and equality for all.”
