As Gavin, Stacey and their extended family prepare for one last Christmas episode, BBC News spoke to some of the minor characters who helped bring their world to life.

Now a teacher, Catrin-Mai Huw says some people still refer to the pharmacy scene when they see it – including her own pupils.

“I think a few years ago they made a meme out of that scene,” said Howe, 36.

“So many of my students said ‘Miss, can I show you something on my phone?'”

Hugh said the single scene, filmed in one day, was “really simple”.

“There’s hardly any dialogue but it’s fun,” he added.

“But since it’s literally a scene, it’s funny how people still recognize me 15 years later!”

When William Thomas was approached to take part in Gavin and Stacey, he already had an impressive acting CV, with previous roles only involving idiots and horses.

But he was shocked when he saw the details of his first appearance as the eccentric curmudgeon Father Chris.

“I saw this five-page scene and I thought, ‘Cracky,'” Thomas recalled.

Now the stuff of legend among fans, the scene involves Father Chris demanding to know his parishioners’ favorite sandwich.

Thomas said he was “incredibly nervous” filming the scene in front of “all the names”, including Ruth Jones and James Corden.

“[But] There was laughter from the congregation, so I thought ‘well it’s working’.

Thomas, 78, made two more appearances as Father Chris for Baby Neil’s name and Nessa and Dave’s wedding.

“I don’t think anyone expected. [Gavin and Stacey] The bigger the bigger the better – my wife and my son are absolutely obsessed with it,” he said.

Does he think Smith will accept Nessa’s proposal?

“My instinct says yes he actually did, because I think there’s a lot of deep affection and love there,” Thomas said.

Steven Mayo’s portrayal of Owen Hughes, Gavin’s new partner, left viewers of the show scratching their heads.

Meo, who is currently starring in the West End production of Fawlty Towers, is still recognized for Gavin and Stacey.

“Every time I do something new on TV, there’s always an article that says, ‘Gavin and Stacey star unrecognizable in new role,’ and I want to say, ‘That was 15 years ago. That’s it mate!’

Meo credits the quality of the script for Gavin and Stacey’s lasting legacy.

“There’s a lot of love, a lot of hope and a lot of redemption,” he said.

Dick Powell, who sells stolen goods and only speaks Welsh, appears only twice in the entire series.

But actor Gwynfor Roberts, who portrayed Dic, said his character was “kept alive” by a number of script references – including when Brian told the Essex troupe that Dic “is a man in Barry who speaks Welsh. “.

Dick’s standout appearance is in series three, when he sells stolen barbecue meat to Mick and Brian.

Roberts said he would definitely watch the finale on Christmas Day.
