Rawalpindi: Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid has been formally charged in the ongoing Field General Court Martial (FGCM) proceedings.
FGCM action was initiated on August 12 under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act against Lt Gen (retd) Hamid, who was also the corps commander of Peshawar.
“[…] and first formally on charges of involvement in political activities, violation of the Official Secrets Act prejudicial to the security and interest of the State, abuse of authority and official resources and wrongful harm to any person(s). Has been arrested. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a brief statement on Tuesday.
The media wing of the army said that the former spymaster was found to be involved in incidents aimed at creating incitement and unrest, which resulted in several incidents including the May 9, 2023 unrest.
Their role in fomenting instability, allegedly in collusion with vested political interests, is also being investigated separately.
“Lt Gen Faiz Hamid (R) is being tolerated. […] All legal rights as per law,” ISPR noted.

He said that the trial of the ex-military officer will be conducted in a military court after which the court will pronounce its decision.
He said that after that Hamid can also file an appeal against the court decision.
Hamid was taken into custody.
The former ISI chief was detained by the army in August this year on charges of abuse of power and violation of the Army Act.
According to the army’s media wing, the Pakistan Army, following Supreme Court orders, had conducted a detailed inquiry to investigate the complaints against Hamid in the Top City case.
It added that based on these complaints, a court-martial process was initiated against the former spy chief.
It has been said that several cases of violation of the Pakistan Army Act have also come to light against the former general after his retirement.
The arrest was made in connection with a petition filed by the housing society’s chief executive officer in the Supreme Court last year, alleging that Hamid had seized land and stolen valuables from a private housing society owner during a raid. was charged.
After Hamid’s arrest in connection with the same housing scheme case, three more retired officers were also taken into military custody.
