FM Nirmala Sitharaman highlights role of women in insurance at launch of LICs Bima Sakhi Yojana


Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized on increasing participation of women in the insurance industry at the launch of LIC’s transformative ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ in Panipat, Haryana on Monday. “From 2017-18, recruitment of women agents has also been initiated. In 2017, there were 6 lakh women agents, which will increase to 7.45 lakh by 2023,” he said.

The ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’, also known as the Women’s Career Agent Initiative, aims to recruit 25,000 women as Bima Sakhis in its initial phase. The program is designed to provide financial and professional opportunities to women, especially women from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Seetha Raman said, “The Bima Sakhi programme, which the Prime Minister is going to launch today, is also known as the Women’s Career Agent Programme. Under this initiative, 25,000 women will be appointed as Bima Sakhis. ” He added, “Women who have completed their 10th standard will be recruited as agents under LIC recruitment under the title of “Mahila Bima Sakhi” and will also get stipend.

To participate in this initiative, women aged 18 to 70 years who have completed their 10th standard education are eligible to apply. “Each Bima Sakhi will get a stipend of Rs 7,000 per month in the first year, Rs 6,000 per month in the second year and Rs 5,000 per month in the third year,” he said.

He added, “This stipend serves as a basic support allowance. Additionally, women agents can earn commission based on the insurance policies they secure, proportional to their turnover in their income.” increases from.” Apart from the stipend, Bima Sakhis will earn a commission based on the insurance policies they secure. This gives women an opportunity to significantly increase their income based on their performance.

After three years, participants can continue their career as Lifetime Agents with LIC, offering a sustainable and rewarding career path. Announcing an ambitious three-year plan, Seetha Raman said the program aims to recruit 2 lakh Bima Sakhis by 2026.

“It aims to recruit 2 lakh Bima Sakhis in the next three years. Women between the ages of 18 and 70 can apply for this program. Even after three years, women in this program as lifelong career agents. can continue their association,” he remarked.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched LIC’s ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ and laid the foundation stone for the main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University in Panipat, Haryana on Monday.
