Mashal Yousafzai, spokesperson for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, claimed on Friday that shots were fired and a chemical-like substance thrown at the former first lady’s car during a police crackdown. Party’s “Last Call” protest in Islamabad.
The protest, aimed at securing the release of Khan, who has been behind bars for more than a year, followed the former ruling party’s decision to reach Islamabad’s D Chowk in protest of a rally in Sangjani. Checking is being done.
Bushra and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur are facing severe criticism for their decision to go ahead with the protest at D Chowk.
Addressing the Geo News In the program “New Pakistan”, Yousafzai described the tense situation at the protest site after the police crackdown and Bushra’s firm stand not to spare the PTI protesters.
He claimed: “Direct shots were fired at Bashree’s vehicle and a chemical-like substance was thrown on the windscreen of the bulletproof vehicle which obscured everything.”
His statement came after Islamabad’s police chief denied the use of live ammunition by law enforcement agencies during the operation.
Yousafzai said that the PTI founder’s wife could not travel in a single vehicle, so the people accompanying her asked her to change the vehicle and assured that she would be taken back to the sit-in.
Bushra’s spokesperson added that he is not sure what actually happened after Bushra changed the car as she got separated from the former first lady due to the stampede.
Wondering how PTI chief Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and KPK Assistant Chief Minister Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif managed to meet Khan in Adiala Jail, they claimed that Bushra was under Khan’s custody. An “indirect message” was received regarding the alleged message to stage a sit-in in Sangjani.
Yousafzai claimed that Bushra wanted to confirm directly with Khan about Sangjani, which was not impossible as the landline number was available in Adiala Jail.
In response to a question, he confirmed that no one met Bushra after she returned from the protest and met her two days later. Yousafzai added that Bushra Bibi neither attended any meeting nor met anyone.
Before the statement, Yousafzai said the party’s founders would be held accountable for the demonstration – which failed to achieve its goal of securing his release.
“That [Bushra] According to Khan’s instructions, he reached D Chowk [whereas] The party leadership was not there. […] Whatever happens, Khan Sahib will remain. [people] Accountable,” Mishal Yousafzai said in a post on X.
