As winter sets in, many people in our cities are left to sleep on the streets in the freezing cold. Without blankets or warm clothes to fight the cold, many people endure unimaginable hardships. The government has set up a few shelters, but these efforts are not enough. Shelters are often overcrowded and lack basic necessities, forcing many to sleep outside. Every winter the same story repeats itself. We distribute blankets and food for a few nights and move on. Charities, while helpful, are like pouring water into a broken vessel, but they do not solve the underlying problem. Survival should not depend on the generosity of a few. It should be guaranteed by the state.
