PESHAWAR: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has expressed deep concern and disappointment over the delay in payment of salaries to university employees despite the approval of funds by the provincial cabinet.

“The delay has created anxiety among employees as universities are already struggling to meet their financial needs,” it said in a statement. The University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar has become the first victim of this careless attitude of the concerned quarters, as it is unable to pay the salaries for December 2024.

FAPUASA said timely payment of salaries is a fundamental right of employees. “Failure to fulfill this responsibility reflects badly on the planning and commitment of the government and the university administration to proactively address financial challenges,” it said, adding that such negligence is a reflection of the academic community. Harms morale and financial stability, ultimately affecting the quality of teaching and research. .

“We demand the provincial government to immediately release the funds allocated to the universities and ensure that the salaries of the employees of UET Peshawar are paid before January 3, 2025. Any further delay the university will increase anxiety among the staff and undermine their trust in public institutions,” FAPUASA said in a statement.

It added that the federation stands in full solidarity with the University of Engineering and Technology Teachers Association (EUTA) in support of their legitimate demands. “If this issue is not resolved, FAPUASA will fully support EUTA in any action deemed necessary to secure the rights of university employees. We urge the authorities to prioritize this matter and any Avoid any kind of promotion which may disrupt the functioning of educational institutions.” Timely resolution of the issue is essential to restore confidence in the system and ensure that the education sector functions smoothly, the statement added.
