A short video clip has been circulating on Pakistani social media claiming to show the appalling conditions in prisons in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This claim is baseless.
Claim
On December 10, a user on X (formerly Twitter) posted a 56-second video recording of an alleged prison in Pakistan, in which a vulnerable inmate can be seen locked inside.
In the accompanying caption, the user said that the prison shown in the video is in Pakistan, where Baloch and Pashtuns are being held.
The post has received 42,000 views, 850 likes and 442 shares so far.

The reality
The video clip is not from Pakistan but from a prison in Vietnam.
Through reverse image search, Geo fact check The viral video showed that the prison is actually the French-era Con Dao prison in Vietnam, which was turned into a war memorial in 1979.
Today, it houses life-size replicas of the prisoners to give visitors an idea of the conditions political prisoners were kept in at the facility, commonly referred to as “Hell on Earth”.

In addition, the video was fact-checked and proved to be from Vietnam. AFP fact check. AFP Further spoke to Con Dao’s board of management, who confirmed that the footage was filmed in French tiger cages located at the Con Dao Special National Relic Site.
