The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Thursday denied reports that more than 100 children had died due to shortage of medicine in violence-hit Kurram district, calling them “fabricated and baseless”.
KP government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif issued a statement saying that all the necessary medicines are being supplied to Karam on a daily basis.
He also appealed to the people not to believe in fake news.
Barrister Saif added that all essential items are being provided to the residents of Karam on priority basis.
It may be noted that more than 130 people were killed in the recent clashes between two tribes in Parachinar, during which more than 100 children were reported dead. Meanwhile, in view of the tense situation, all the major and minor roads of the district have been closed.
On Wednesday, Upper Karam Tehsil Chairman Agha Muzamil Hussain said that the citizens are deprived of food and medical treatment due to road closure. He claimed that more than 100 children have died in hospitals due to lack of treatment, while the same number of people have suffered from cancer and other diseases.
Meanwhile, local government (LG) representatives have warned that they will vacate their offices if roads in Karam district are not reopened immediately.
Tehsil Chairman Hussain said that if the road blockade continues, he will resign along with other LG representatives in protest.
Afghan border and other routes including Peshawar Parachinar Road have not been opened for vehicular traffic for almost two and a half months.
