Elton John lost his sight.
The singer has revealed he has lost his sight after a battle with a “severe” infection. The 77-year-old music legend shared the news while addressing guests after the premiere at London’s Dominion Theater on Sunday night. The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical.
“As some of you may know, I’ve had trouble and now I’ve lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I’ve enjoyed it,” John told the audience. According to The Daily Mail.
The Grammy-winning artist credits her husband, David Furnish, for supporting her through this difficult time.
“To my husband, who has been my rock, because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I’ve lost my sight, so it’s hard for me to see, but I love to hear. It is,” he said in a video shared on TikTok.
“And, boy, did tonight look good! Well done! Thanks for coming!”
John, who composed the original score for it. The Devil Wears Prada: The Musicalpraised the performance, which features Tony nominee Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly.
The charity event attracted several notable personalities, including Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, Lily Collins, and Elizabeth Hurley.
This is not the first time John has spoken about his vision problems. In September, he revealed that he has “limited vision in one eye” after suffering a “severe eye infection” over the summer.
“I am recovering, but it is a very slow process, and it will take some time for vision to return to the affected eye,” he said in a statement at the time.
“I am so grateful to the wonderful team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.”
