Meta has donated $1 million to US President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund, the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company confirmed to various news outlets on Wednesday.
The donation comes just weeks after the Meta CEO joined Trump for dinner at the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in what was speculated to be Zuckerberg’s historic visit. It is a possible attempt to mend weak relationships.
According to ForbesThe parent company of social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger was the first to confirm the development. The Wall Street Journalrevealing that Zuckerberg’s team had reported the donation to Trump’s inaugural committee before the dinner.
However, Meta, while confirming the donation, did not reveal further details about the motivation behind the decision.
According to the Federal Election Commission, corporations can contribute to inaugural committees without any limit.
Before that, the The New York Times reported that Trump’s inaugural committee is offering special access to donors who contribute $1 million or raise $2 million.
Those high-level donors will receive six to eight tickets to the main opening events from January 17 to 20, including six tickets to the opening on January 20.
Additionally, he will have the opportunity to attend a reception with Trump’s Cabinet nominees and dine with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and his wife, Osha, on January 18.
The next day, top donors will have the opportunity to dine with Trump himself and his wife, Melania. However, it is uncertain whether Zuckerberg or any meta-executives will attend these events.
