ATHENS: Two people were killed on the island of Lemnos and roads and buildings were damaged in Rhodes after a storm swept through Greece, authorities said on Sunday.
Cyclone Bora, which reached Greece on Saturday, is forecast to bring heavy snow to the north and northwest.
On Saturday, the Civil Protection Service issued an emergency warning of torrential rains and strong winds in the northeast, center and area around Athens.
On the island of Rhodes, which has a major tourism industry, the storm damaged roads, homes and commercial buildings overnight Saturday into Sunday, regional governor George Hadjimarkos said. He said that hundreds of people have been evacuated.
Authorities have urged residents to stay at home and blocked traffic while emergency services are on “high alert”.
On Lemnos, two men, aged 57 and 70, died in accidents, one driving his car out of the mud, the other falling on his head outside his house.
