The latest protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) triggered a massive government crackdown, effectively paralyzing the country. In response to the protests, the government closed several motorways and suspended public transport, leaving thousands stranded. Mobile signals were disrupted in many areas and social media platforms stopped working properly. Schools and colleges in Islamabad also remained closed. The government’s heavy-handed measures, aimed at suppressing protests, have effectively affected the lives of millions of citizens. Such moves send a relevant message to foreign investors, who are already worried about political instability in Pakistan. The closure of critical infrastructure and communication channels undermines investor confidence, making the country less attractive for business opportunities. We need a more balanced approach to dealing with protests and political instability.
