China says 2024 was its hottest year on record.

BEIJING: Last year was China’s hottest year on record and the past four years were its warmest on record, its meteorological agency said this week.

China is the world’s leading emitter of greenhouse gases.

It aims to ensure that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions peak by 2030 and reach net zero by 2060.

The 2024 average national temperature was 10.92 degrees Celsius (51.66 Fahrenheit) — 1.03 degrees Celsius. “This was the warmest year since full records began in 1961,” the China Meteorological Administration said on its news site late Wednesday.

“The top four warmest years on record were the last four years, with all 10 warmest years since 1961 occurring in the 21st century,” he added. said

In 2024, China recorded its warmest July on record, along with its warmest August and warmest autumn on record.

The United Nations said in a year-end message on Monday that 2024 will be the hottest year on record worldwide.

India said on Wednesday that 2024 was its warmest year since 1901, while Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology said on Thursday that last year was its second warmest since records began in 1910.

Germany’s meteorological agency said in December that 2024 was the warmest year since records began 143 years ago.

Czech weather service CHMI said on Thursday that 2024 was the “warmest ever” in Prague since records began in 1775, surpassing the previous records of 2018 and 2023 by 0.5 degrees.
