Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz arrived in Beijing on Sunday on an eight-day official visit aimed at “promoting modern infrastructure, expanding healthcare system, improving education and promoting clean energy initiatives”.
On arrival at the Beijing Airport, the provincial chief executive was received by representatives of the Chinese Communist Party, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmir and other senior officials.
Maryam Nawaz became the first woman Chief Minister of Pakistan to visit the neighboring country.
He was accompanied by a high-level delegation including senior provincial ministers Pervez Rasheed, Maryam Aurangzeb, Uzma Bukhari, Bilal Akbar and Ashiq Kirmani.
After his arrival, he met a high-level delegation of the Communist Party of China.
Speaking on the occasion, Maryam expressed her desire to take Punjab to economic and financial heights with the cooperation of Beijing. He said that Pakistan-China bilateral relations are moving towards heights.
During her visit, the Chief Minister will also visit major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
She will meet with Chinese ministers, senior officials and experts and will also attend various meetings, events and conferences in China.
Earlier, the Punjab Chief Minister had said in a post on X that she was visiting the neighboring country to further strengthen the enduring relationship between Pakistan and China.
He wrote, “The visit would focus on advancing modern infrastructure, expanding healthcare systems, improving education, promoting clean energy initiatives, promoting IT investment and eradicating smog.” It is,” he wrote.
The visit comes a few weeks after Chinese Premier Li Qiang visited Pakistan in November 2024, where he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Islamabad and met with senior Pakistani officials.
