With the future of the Champions Trophy doomed, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is unlikely to accept the “neutral venue formula” offered by Pakistan. Indian Express claimed on Tuesday.
According to sources, the Indian media’s claim came two days after the International Cricket Council (ICC) considered a proposal to end the deadlock on hosting the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
According to the new formula, India will play all its ICC matches, which are scheduled to be played in Pakistan, in Dubai and Pakistan will play its matches in India, sources said.
He said that this formula would be applicable for the next three years from Champions Trophy 2025, adding that it would allow CT scheduling and venue. The matter was expected to remain.
Sources say that under the new formula, India and Pakistan will not play any tournament in each other’s countries during this period.
He said that it has been suggested to include this formula in the host agreement of both the teams.
However, Indian media claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was unlikely to accept the proposal, claiming that there were no security issues in India.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought a written assurance from India but if the latter does not provide one, the ICC will decide on the Champions Trophy issue.
According to PCB sources, there has been no communication from the ICC or the BCCI regarding the proposal so far. Pakistan’s proposal is under consideration, expected to be discussed in two to three days.
Next year’s tournament in Pakistan has become a point of contention between Pakistan and India, with the BCCI refusing to send its team to Pakistan citing security concerns despite assurances.
