The government notifies interest rates on small savings schemes every quarter, which are mostly run by post offices and banks.
The government on Tuesday kept the interest rates unchanged on various small savings schemes, including PPF and NSC, for the fourth consecutive quarter starting January 1, 2025.
“Interest rates on various small savings schemes for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2024-25, beginning January 1, 2025 and ending on March 31, 2025, notified to persons for the third quarter (October 1, 2024) will remain unchanged from 2024-25 till 31 December 2024),” said the Finance Ministry notification.
According to the notification, deposits under the Sukanya Samardhi scheme will fetch an interest rate of 8.2 per cent, while the three-year term deposit rate remains unchanged at 7.1 per cent in the current quarter.
Interest rates for the popular Public Provident Fund (PPF) and Post Office Savings Deposit schemes have also been kept at 7.1 per cent and 4 per cent respectively.
The interest rate on Kisan Vikasputra will be 7.5 percent, and the investment will mature in 115 months.
The interest rate on National Savings Certificate (NSC) will remain at 7.7% for the period January to March 2025.
As on the current quarter, the monthly income scheme will earn 7.4 percent for investors.
Interest rates have remained unchanged for the past four quarters. The government last made changes in some schemes for the fourth quarter of last fiscal.
