The neighbor expressed disbelief to learn that Shamsuddin Jabbar was accused of the Bourbon Street bloodbath. “Blow my mind, I was shocked, somebody grabbed the rug under my feet, I was just shocked, unbelievable, ‘Did that really happen?'” the man said. “Like I said, we still don’t believe, we still don’t believe that’s the person, there’s just no way, it can’t be.”
The Times reported that Jabbar was “known as a smart, caring brother and a quiet, helpful neighbor.”
The newspaper also spoke with Chris Pawson, a 42-year-old retired Air Force veteran who lives in Beaumont, Texas and went to middle and high school with Jabbar.
Referring to Jabbar as “Syrian”, Posen described the Times as: “Quiet, safe, and really, really smart.”
