Islamabad: Bangladesh has bought 25 thousand tons of high quality sugar which will reach Chittagong port (Bangladesh) from Karachi port next month.
According to officials, the Pakistani sugar industry is sending its production to brother country Bangladesh in such a large quantity after many decades. On Monday, December 2, the price of sugar in the international market reached 530 dollars per ton.
Earlier, Bangladesh has been importing sugar from India. The Pakistan Sugar Industry, with the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has made deals of around 600,000 tonnes of sugar this year.
Of this, 70,000 tonnes will be sent to Central Asian states. Thailand has bought 50 thousand tons of sugar from Pakistan Sugar Industry. According to Majid Malik, an official of Pakistani Sugar Dealers, Gulf states, Arab countries and African countries have also signed agreements to buy sugar from Pakistan.
Pakistan will earn 400 to 500 million dollars from sugar exports. Thus Pakistan sugar industry has become a major foreign exchange earner for the country as the country will export sugar after the new crushing season next year with the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
With the combined efforts of the country’s political and military leadership, the sugar industry is successfully exporting sugar that was previously smuggled through Afghanistan to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. More than 80 sugar mills in Pakistan started sugar production on Monday, December 2, 2024.
