London: The BBC said on Tuesday it would cancel two Christmas specials of the popular cooking program “MasterChef” after allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior were made against one of its presenters.
But the final three shows of the current pre-recorded season of “MasterChef: The Professionals” will air as planned this week to showcase the competition’s finale.
A BBC spokesman said: ‘Celebrity Christmas specials are obviously a different kind of show and in the current circumstances we have decided not to broadcast them’.
But they added a “life-changing” competition in which professional chefs pit their cooking skills against each other in a battle for the coveted MasterChef trophy to “continue as planned”.
Pressure has been mounting since the allegations against British broadcaster Greg Wallace came to light.
Wallace has denied making “inappropriate” sexual jokes and comments after more than a dozen people came forward last week with allegations spanning a 17-year period.
The production company behind “MasterChef,” a decades-old show whose branded format is now produced in more than 50 countries, has said it is investigating the claims.
