‘Bashri Bibi made changes in PTI’s legal team’

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi has reportedly made changes in the former ruling party’s legal team and the organizational structure of the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF), it emerged on Saturday.

Reliable sources said that the former first lady has called for a list of PTI-affiliated lawyers from across the country through advocate Qazi Anwar.

The sources further said that ‘Advocate Anwar and Mashal Yousafzai will report to Bushra Bibi on matters related to lawyers’.

The former First Lady reportedly ordered Advocate Anwar to consult her on the final cases filed against the PTI leadership.

He also barred the party’s lawyers from delivering messages to the PTI founder, who is behind bars after being convicted in the Tosha Khana case-1 in August last year, after being ousted from power in April. One of dozens of cases registered against the Prime Minister. 2022, sources added.

Earlier this week, Bushra resolved internal disputes among party lawyers and briefed the jailed PTI founder on changes in the hierarchy of the ILFKP chapter, sources said. Final consultation was also done with them.

Talking to Geo NewsAdvocate Anwar, however, denied the report saying that the former first lady did not contact him. “I don’t know if lawyers have been barred from conveying messages to the PTI founder,” he added.

When contacted, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja declined to comment on the matter.

Marwat demanded an audit of lawyers’ fees.

Meanwhile, PTI firebrand leader Sher Afzal Marwat demanded an audit of the lawyers’ fees paid for the party’s legal cases.

He remarked that few lawyers took money, and the fees paid must be audited.

He revealed that three to four lawyers received fees and in his opinion, the lawyers were overcharged.

“The cases were not of such a nature that such a high fee should have been paid.” “The cases were frivolous and did not require significant legal expertise.”

He added that the work was not high-profile enough to require top lawyers, and the fees were far above what was appropriate.

Marwat emphasized his contribution, saying that he represented the PTI founder in 74 cases, without accepting any payment.

Last month, PTI leaders were angry over the alleged harshness and increasing interference of Bushra and the former prime minister’s sister Aleema Khan in party affairs.

Some senior party leaders, on the condition of anonymity, said that Khan’s wife and sister’s misbehavior with party leaders was on the rise.

Aleema’s confrontation with PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Raja at the court premises in Adiala Jail was a reflection of the situation facing party leaders.
