PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has assured additional security measures to ensure lasting peace in the violence-hit Karam district.
Noting that 400 police personnel have already been sanctioned to secure the Kurram Highway, Advisor to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif has said that new police posts have been set up. will go and two platoons of Frontier Constabulary (FC) will be deployed. will be deployed to ensure lasting peace in the region.
His statement came after days of talks between two warring tribes in Karam on Wednesday signed a 14-point peace deal aimed at bringing peace to the region after weeks of violence. .

The peace agreement was reached when the Grand Peace Jirga – under the supervision of GOC 9 Division Major General Zulfikar Bhatti – was convened in Kohat Fort to mediate between the two sides.
According to Barrister Saif, the Jirga held more than 50 meetings during which the members made sincere efforts for peace while being supported by the administration including the Commissioner and the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).
Despite several cease-fires announced over the past year, the issue remains unresolved, with tribal leaders continuing efforts to negotiate a permanent peace deal.
Recent clashes, in which more than 130 people have been killed since November, have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the district, with long-term closures of the main highway linking Parachinar to Peshawar hampering access to medicine and oxygen. Supply is extremely low.
Meanwhile, the death toll since July has topped 200 in the district home to more than 600,000 residents.
Justifying the road closures to prevent further bloodshed, the adviser to the KP Chief Minister said the government was fully aware of the problems.
Talking about the relief operations, he said that the Chief Minister has dedicated his helicopter for airlifting people and medicines in the area.
He remarked that “about 15 tons of medicines were delivered and air services were provided to over 700 people.”
Commenting on the ongoing sit-in at the Parachinar Press Club, he said that the protest was no longer justified as the demands of the protesters had been accepted.
Saif added that the government will soon start the process of providing compensation to the victims.
