Pakistan’s star batsman Babur Azam has expressed his admiration for veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket.
Ashwin made a surprise decision after the rain-affected third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Brisbane was drawn.
During the post-match press conference, the 38-year-old spinner reflected on his illustrious career, saying, “It has been an incredible ride, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to represent my country at the highest level. ”
Babar, who is currently leading Pakistan in their all-format series against South Africa, took to Instagram to honor Ashwin’s achievements.
“Congratulations on an incredible career, Ravichandran Ashwin,” Babar wrote, highlighting the commonality and respect between top cricketers.
Ashwin has gone out of international cricket as one of India’s great bowlers. Over 106 Tests, he took 537 wickets at an extraordinary average of 24, making him India’s second highest wicket-taker in the format, behind only the legendary Anil Kumble, who took 132 Tests. Got 619 wickets.
A prolific all-rounder, Ashwin also scored 3,503 runs in Tests, including six centuries and 14 fifties.
This feat puts him in an elite group of 11 cricketers to achieve the double milestone of 3000+ runs and 300+ wickets in Test cricket.
Ashwin’s prowess also extended to white-ball cricket, where he took 156 and 72 wickets in 116 ODIs and 65 T20Is respectively.
