Peshawar’s Israr Khattak won the second edition of the Karachi Marathon here on Sunday, clocking two hours, 29 minutes and 58 seconds to complete the World Athletics-recognised event.
The event featured multiple categories, including a 42.2 km full marathon, a 21.1 km half marathon, and a five km fun run.
The event attracted runners from across Pakistan and international participants from countries including the US, Poland, Japan, Germany and Australia, making it Pakistan’s largest marathon event, attracting seasoned professionals. Individuals and enthusiastic enthusiasts welcome.
Muhammad Riaz from Bahawalpur finished second in the full marathon with a time of 2 hours 32 minutes and 10 seconds.
In the half marathon, Muhammad Akhtar of Sahiwal won the first position with a time of one hour, 12 minutes and eight seconds, followed by Muhammad Qasim of Sialkot and Muhammad Usman of Attock, second and third respectively.
In the women’s half marathon, Mumtaz Neemat from Gilgit emerged as the winner, clocking one hour and 43 minutes.
According to Sports in Pakistan, one of the organizers of the event, the certification of the marathon by the World Ranking Competition ensured a world-class experience for all participants.
First-time participants, such as Mustansar Bandukwala, a hiker-turned-runner, and Mazhar Walji, 66, praised the event’s positive impact on Karachi, while 72-year-old Feroze Rizvi, the oldest runner in the event, said the charity’s completed a half marathon to raise funds for
