Asma Jahangir Group backed Sarfaraz Matlo elected president of SHCBA

KARACHI: Muhammad Sarfraz Ali Matlo was elected as the president of Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) for the year 2024-25 in the annual elections of the bar association held on Saturday.

According to the results announced by the Election Commissioner Zulfiqar Ali Khan Jalbani, Matlo was elected president by getting 2971 votes. The other contestants for the presidency, Muhammad Haseeb Jamali and Irfan Hassan, got 2,254 and 16 votes respectively.

Muhammad Rahab was elected as the Vice President by securing 1736 lakh votes, defeating Ehtishamullah Khan, Ayazuddin Qureshi, Muhammad Imran Shamsi, Niaz Muhammad Ghamro and Rukhshanda Waheed who secured 636, 1338, 159, 674 and 581 votes respectively. .

Mirza Sarfaraz Ahmed was re-elected for the post of Honorary Secretary with 1850 votes. He defeated Ali Asghar, Hakim Ali Shar, Khalil Ahmed, Masoodah Siraj, Rehman Dinu Mahesar and Razia Danish who got 437, 652, 1248, 307, 472 and 231 votes respectively.

For the post of treasurer, Athar Ali Memon was declared successful by getting 2255 votes while Muhammad Yashin Shahid Bhatti and Taimur Ali Mirza got 996 and 1884 votes respectively.

Waseem Saif Khoso won the post of Joint Secretary by getting 1657 votes. He defeated Ayaz Ali Chandio, Faisal Ahmed Memon, Rehman Ghani and Zafar Hussain who got 708, 952, 771 and 1100 votes respectively.

Faiqa Amin has been elected Additional Joint Secretary for Women Affairs. He got 3,018 votes and defeated Syeda Sara Kanwal who got 2,057 votes.

The members of SHCBA’s managing committee include Safia Qadir, Aamir Latif, Zahida Kamal Alvi, Mohammad Amir Khosa, Rizwan Ali Rajpar, Mohammad Faisal Khan, Arooj Akhlaq, Dewan Tarachand and Obaidullah Abro.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif congratulated Barrister Matlo on being elected as the President of SHCA.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Ahsan Bhawan, head of the Independent Lawyers Group, on the victory of Matlo.

He said that I hope that the newly elected President and the Independent Lawyers Group will continue their efforts for the welfare of lawyers. He hoped that the Asma Jahangir Group would continue to give priority to the politics of principles and adherence to them as usual. The Prime Minister said that the newly elected President will work tirelessly to strengthen the legal profession and continue his efforts to promote justice and democracy in the country.
