Parachinar: The death toll has risen to 102 while 138 have been injured in the ongoing clashes in the tribal district of Kurram, according to police and hospital sources.
The sound of sporadic gunshots echoed throughout the area, which increased tension and spread fear and panic among the residents.
Two more people lost their lives and six were injured in fresh clashes between rival tribes.
Also, the critically injured Muhammad Ali succumbed to his injuries after being shot in an attack on passenger vehicles in Mandori-Achhat area of Lower Kurram on November 21. The death toll in this attack alone has now risen to 52.
More than 100 people have been killed in the incidents of violence in Kurram during the last one week. This has further aggravated the humanitarian crisis in the region. Major roads including Peshawar Parachinar Highway are closed for traffic while internet and mobile services are suspended.
Educational institutions across the district are closed due to security concerns. Road closures have led to shortages of essential goods and fuel, disrupting daily life.
Sincerely Member of National Assembly (MNA) Engineer Hamid Hussain expressed concern over the worsening situation. “Road closures have disrupted the supply of essential goods, fuel and medicine, making life difficult for people. Urgent steps are needed to reopen and secure transport routes.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud announced that a grand peace jirga comprising representatives of Kohat division was being taken to Kuram. He said the Jirga would mediate between tribal elders and negotiate a ceasefire to restore peace in the conflict-hit region.
