The 83-year-old folk singer, joined by his son Art Garfunkel Jr. as part of his duo Garfunkel and Garfunkel, reflects on reconnecting with Simon after years apart.
When host Kelly Ripa asked, “Do you think you’ll ever reconnect with Paul Simon?” Garfunkel Sr. answered bluntly.
“That’s the question they always ask me,” he shared.
“I can’t speak for him. It’s really his life. I know we met recently for the first time in years. There’s been some separation between us for a few years until—he has a son who Moved to where I live, and I knew I’d go to Harper’s. [Simon]. Harper arranged a dinner, and Paul and I met for the first time in years. And it was very touching.”
Garfunkel also addressed their reunion in a recent interview with The Times, published on November 11.
“We were together for the first time in years,” he said, recalling the meeting earlier that fall. “I looked at Paul and said, ‘What happened? Why haven’t we seen each other?’ Paul mentioned an old interview where I said something.
Simon & Garfunkel rose to fame between 1964 and 1970, releasing five studio albums, including the hit Bridge over troubled waters.
Despite their musical success, the pair’s relationship has been famously strained. They have reunited on rare occasions, such as their famous 1981 benefit concert in Central Park, but have remained distant for the past few decades.
