In a recent interview with Varietythe 31-year-old actress and singer reflected on the challenges and rewards of portraying the iconic character, calling it a role that required “a lot of vocal work.”

“Some things probably won’t melt. Some will, but I’m really grateful for the pieces that will always be with us,” Grande said. “What a beautiful thing to leave, and feel the ghost of every day.”

Grande humorously mentions another “parting gift” from her transformation into Glinda: “I’m still looking for my eyebrows,” she joked. “I’ll tell you if I find them—I hope I don’t.”

gave 7 circles The singer also acknowledged the dedication that she and her co-star Cynthia Erive (Elphaba) put into their roles.

“Maybe people underestimate how much time we spent looking for and missing these women,” Grande said of the process.

“So when certain inflections or behaviors take time to thaw, sometimes people make fun of them. But we had a job to do, and we had things to lose — because that stuff was needed.”

Grande, who has long called Glinda her “dream role,” revealed that her commitment to the role spanned a decade.

“I was chasing. [producer] Mark Platt had been wondering for about 10 years when this movie was going to happen, when I would get a chance to audition,” he laughs in a clip from the Wicked digital home release.

The two-time Grammy winner also shared her excitement leading up to the audition process, even dedicating part of her wardrobe to the role.

“I had a small part of my closet that was just pink tops and stuff,” Grande said. She playfully added, “I was like, ‘What underwear is Glinda going to wear today?’ “
