Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, recently had an “upbeat conversation” with Rep. Brian Mast, the new chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, in Washington.

Detailing their meeting in a social media post, Rizwan said the two diplomats discussed strengthening bilateral ties between their countries through deeper economic engagement.

The meeting comes days after Mast, a US Army veteran from Florida, was voted by the House Republican Steering Committee to chair the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

In a post on X, the ambassador wrote: “Delighted to meet Rep. Brian Mast @RepBrianMast — a passionate leader — recently elected chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“We had an optimistic discussion on strengthening bilateral ties through deeper economic engagement. Prospects and avenues for advancing Pak-US cooperation and partnership were explored in the evolving global scenario.”

“Cooperation is the best way forward,” he quoted Mast as saying the congressman recognized Pakistan’s “geopolitical and geo-economic importance.”

“Wish him every step of the way in this important new role,” Rizwan added.

The Pakistani ambassador has met more than seven US lawmakers in recent days to promote bilateral ties and increase investment and trade.
