LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Sunday appointed Malik Afzal Khokhar as the Chairman of Provincial Steering Committee of Model Carts.
The initiative aims to regulate street vending by providing designated spaces for vendors, decongesting traffic and informal cart operations. The initiative also sought to provide vendors with designated, well-organized spaces to work. Malik Afzal Khokhar, who was also the Chairman of Punjab Model Bazaar Management Company, ensured speedy execution of the project in just one month and 1000 model karts were manufactured during this period.
The project was inaugurated on Sunday and was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Lahore. Model vehicles are being distributed free of cost to poor street vendors.
DC has been directed to ensure fair and transparent distribution giving priority to deserving persons. As part of the pilot phase, around 19 locations in Lahore will be made operational within the first month.
