Apparently ending the controversy over the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2024, the federal cabinet on Friday approved amendments to the Madrasas Registration Act, which is backed by the Jamiat Ulema Islam Fazal (JUI-F).

The development comes two days after JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza said that all differences between the government and his party over the madrassa registration bill had been resolved.

“The gazette notification of the Madrassa Registration Act passed in light of the 26th Constitutional Amendment is likely to be issued in the next two days,” the senator said while talking to Geo News.

Murtaza further said that he and Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazir Tarar have finalized the draft legislation. After the notification is issued, the matter will be completely resolved.

After a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the government allegedly accepted all the demands of “Ittihad Sargan Madrasa Deeniya (ITMD)” regarding the controversial madrassa registration bill. For”.

The controversial Madrassa Bill, which has already been passed by both houses of Parliament, became a bone of contention between the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) and the government.

Its implementation was part of an agreement between the government and the religious-political party to support the 26th Amendment, Fazal said earlier.

After the approval of the Parliament, the Bill required the President’s assent to become law, but President Asif Ali Zardari withdrew the Bill citing legal objections. According to the constitution, after the President refuses to sign the bill, it must be presented before the joint session.

Article 75(2) of the Constitution of Pakistan states: “When the President returns a bill to the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament), the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) shall reconsider it in joint session and, if Re-approved by the Shura (Parliament), with or without amendment, by a majority vote of the members of both Houses from have been approved and shall be placed before the President, and the President shall give his assent within ten days, failing which such assent shall be deemed to have been given.”

Meanwhile, the Cabinet in today’s meeting approved amendments to the Income Tax Ordinance 2024, relating to banking companies proposed by the Revenue Division.

It also approved policy guidelines for carbon market trading on the recommendations of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Coordination.

On the order of the Peshawar High Court and the recommendation of the Ministry of Law, the Cabinet approved the assignment of additional powers of Insurance Tribunals to all District and Sessions Judges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
