Actor Julian Arnold died during a performance

It’s unclear what caused Arnold’s death, but paramedics arrived at the Citadel Theater in Edmonton, Canada at around 8:28 p.m. According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Paramedics attempted resuscitation, but Arnold died in theater.

Arnold, 60, played Marley and Mr. Fizzywig in the drama, according to CBC. The play is based on the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens.

The theater said in a statement on social media that Arnold was “a beloved actor and dear friend” as well as “a beloved member of the Edmonton theater community.” According to the CBC, Arnold was a founding member of the Free Will Players, a theater company that produces an annual Shakespeare festival, and was a fixture of the city’s theater community for years.

The Citadel Theater said the remainder of “A Christmas Carol” will be dedicated to his memory.

“Julian’s passing is a profound loss to his family, friends, fellow carol company members, Citadel staff, and the Edmonton community he loved so much,” the theater said. “His presence brought joy, heart and depth to every character, and his artistic contributions – and big hugs – will be greatly missed.”

According to the CBC, due to Arnold’s death there will be some changes to the show’s schedule, and audience members will be contacted by the theater.

A GoFundMe has been created to help Arnold’s family. It has raised nearly $42,000 as of Friday.
