Abigail Breslin also came forward after Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni.
The actress spoke about the reaction of women speaking out against sexism and injustice in Hollywood.
In an emotional post shared on Instagram and Tumblr Little Miss Sunshine The actress recounted her experience of a lawsuit filed against her after she addressed “unprofessional behavior” by a male co-star.
Breslin’s statement was inspired by the recent allegations against Baldoni, which also prompted Kate Beckinsale to share her experiences of abuse in the industry.
The actress reflected on being labeled “crazy and wild” after following the proper channels to report the abuse.
“I took all recommended, reasonable and appropriate steps to report confidentially to my union,” she wrote.
“I was told my fears were figments of my imagination.” Breslin revealed that her past experiences of domestic abuse were also used against her to discredit her claims.
Although he did not name individuals or projects, Breslin’s post is consistent with his involvement in a November 2023 lawsuit regarding the film Classified.
The film’s producers sued him, claiming that his allegations jeopardized its release. Breslin noted that the lawsuit was later withdrawn.
In her post, Breslin lamented the lack of progress since the #MeToo movement.
“When the smoke clears in the sky and the ash and debris drifts off the sidewalk, behind closed doors — to them — we’re still just noisy women,” she wrote.
Breslin also criticized society and the double standard on social media. He pointed out a tendency to defend men accused of bad behavior while ignoring women who spoke up.
“This leads us to the impossible double-edged sword we face every day,” he wrote. “If we don’t speak up, we’re weak and contributing to the problem. If we do, we’re dramatic, rude, bossy, over-the-top divas.”
The actress ended the question and said why the burden of proof always falls on women. “Because how can a woman do anything but lie or exaggerate?”
