Aaron Rodgers says the Jets’ season finale against the Dolphins could be his last NFL game.

Aaron Rogers He acknowledged Sunday’s game could be the last time he plays in the NFL.

Rogers was asked by reporters whether New York JetsWednesday’s season finale against the Miami Dolphins could be the last of his career.

“Yes, of course,” Rogers replied.

Rodgers hasn’t made a final decision yet, but says he will make one before free agency opens in March. Rodgers is under contract with the Jets for next season, and counts toward a $23 million cap hit. However, the Jets are also set to hire a new head coach and general manager in the offseason, after Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas, the regime that brought Rodgers to New York, were fired midseason.

“I’m more resigned to the reality of the situation,” Rodgers admitted about the stakes of Sunday’s game. “I think there is going to be a change here, and if I am. [not] Part of the change, then I just want to make sure everyone knows that I have nothing but thanks for my time here.”

He added that he expects the new coach and general manager in charge to make a decision soon about his future with the team.

“I don’t think we’re going to go that far,” Rogers said. “There’s going to be a regime change, at least with GM. Whatever they do, I’m sure I’ll either make the call or talk and walk away.”

Rodgers missed almost his entire first season with the Jets last year when he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury on the opening drive of the Jets’ Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills. This year, despite Rodgers having a fully healthy season, the Jets have gone 4-12.

“I’m disappointed with both my performance and as a team but I’m really grateful for the opportunity. If I feel good coming back and they want to make another run at it, that would be great, but I don’t. I am unaware of the situation we are in.”

The season is also physically taxing on Rodgers. After being sacked four times last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, he became the most sacked quarterback in NFL history. He has been sacked 568 times in 247 career games – three more than Tom Brady, who was sacked 565 times in his career. Russell Wilson is also right there with 556 sacks.

The Jets quarterback has been sacked 37 times this season. He led the league in sacks twice in his career – both when he was with the Green Bay Packers.

Still, Rogers considers his last two years in New York the best of his life.

“I mean grateful, honestly. It’s been the best two years of my life,” Rodgers said. “It’s an attitude adjustment that happened at some point during the rehab process last year. Just the excitement, getting back into the love of the game, getting to know these guys here, the great men and women who work here. Knowing. It’s fun, there’s no doubt that this game is about relationships.”
