Karachi Police on Monday issued a traffic plan ahead of New Year’s Eve as several roads will be closed for general traffic on the intervening night of December 31 to January 1, 2025.
Security will be on high alert across the city on New Year’s Eve, with the imposition of Section 144 and a complete ban on the use of weapons, aerial firing and firecrackers for two days.
Unfortunately, every year on New Year’s Eve, hundreds of people are injured or killed in celebratory shootings despite various measures taken by the authorities.
The traffic police asked Defense Housing Authority (DHA) residents to take alternative routes to reach their destinations as people will head to entertainment spots including Clifton, Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim and Seaview for New Year celebrations.
Residents of alternate route areas will then be able to show their original identity cards to avoid any inconvenience while traveling to their destination.

Alternative routes
- Expressway and Korangi to Korangi Road, Sunset Boulevard Road, Ghazri Bridge, Saudi Signal Khayaban Shamshir, McDonald’s Sea View Road will be opened for traffic.
- For those going to DHA from North Nazimabad, go to MA Jinnah Road, Garden Road, Zeb Nisa Street, Awari Light Signal, Sindh Club Chowk, Tin Talwar, Zam Zam Boulevard towards Do Talwar, Khayaban-e-Shamsher and McDonald’s Sea View. will be opened. , Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Gulshan Iqbal, and New Karachi.
- Shariah Faisal, Sindh Club Chowk, Tin Talwar, Race Course Signal, Chaudhry Khalid-ul-Zaman Road, Ghazri Bridge, Saudi Signal towards Khayaban Shamsher, McDonald Sea View Road will be opened for traffic from Gadap, Bin Qasim, Landhi. Korangi, Shah Faisal, Jamshed Road and Sadar.
- Jinnah Bridge to Mai Kolachi to Boat Basin, Bilawal House Chowrangi, Marine Road (Hyper Star) to McDonald’s Sea View will be opened for traffic.
Additionally, Maripur Road will be completely closed for heavy traffic including tankers, dumpers and trucks towards Jinnah Bridge Mai Kolachi, which will be diverted towards Hub River Road and Shaara Pakistan towards Jinnah Bridge.
Parking will not be allowed on Shariah Faisal, Abdullah Haroon Road, Dr. Ziaduddin Ahmed Road, Mai Kolachi Road, Korangi Road, MT Khan Road and others.
The traffic police warned of action against cars and motorcycles without silencers as well as reckless drivers on the occasion of New Year.
