The US Surgeon General has issued a new advisory warning about alcohol-related cancer risk.
Dr Vivek Murthy issued the directive on Wednesday after research linked alcohol to at least seven types of cancer.
Experts say that drinking alcohol is related to six types of cancer
Specifically, the advisory notes that cancer can increase the risk of throat, liver, pharynx, esophagus, mouth, larynx (voice box) and colorectal cancers.

“Alcohol is a well-established, preventable cause of cancer responsible for nearly 100,000 cancer cases and 20,000 cancer deaths in the U.S. annually – more than 13,500 deaths in alcohol-related traffic accidents in the U.S. each year – then The majority of Americans are also unaware of this risk,” Murthy said in the advisory.
