A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead in Roscommon.


A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a woman in her 50s was found in County Roscommon on Monday.

A Garda Síochána (Irish police) named her as Marjana Pope.

His body was found on the lands of Coragallin.

A house in Athlone was sealed off on Tuesday, and two cars were seized as part of a gardaí investigation.

Gardaí said they were interested in the movements of a Peugeot 207 between 11:00 and 12:00 local time on Saturday 28 December.

The car is understood to have traveled from Beechville estate, Athlone to the N6 motorway (westbound) before continuing on the R362 through Monksland to Bealnaulla.

Motorists traveling on these routes within this time frame are asked to provide dash cam footage.

Meanwhile, two people have been arrested following the death of a man in his 60s in County Wexford on Tuesday.

Shortly after 11:00 local time, gardaí and emergency services were called to a residence in Clwyn Fada, New Ross, where they The man, John O’Connor, was found unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A 30-year-old man was arrested from a nearby place in connection with this incident.

Another man, also in his 30s, was arrested on Tuesday.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
