KARACHI: With the onset of winter, Sindh is expected to be hit by a “mild cold wave” from today (Saturday), the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and snow in various parts of the country. said a day after issuing the forecast.

The Department of Meteorology has said in its weather forecast for the southern province that the temperature in the areas of Upper Sindh is likely to fall between 7 and 9 degrees Celsius at night.

Central Sindh is likely to see night temperatures between 9°C and 11°C, while South Sindh is likely to see night temperatures between 10°C and 12°C.

Especially in Karachi, the temperature may drop to 11°C–13°C tonight and Sunday night.

The Meteorological Department also noted that dry and cold winds from northeast and northwest will continue to prevail over the region.

Meanwhile, an unusual cold wave has entered Balochistan, with temperatures dropping significantly in many areas, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

Temperatures have dropped to minus 7 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas near the Afghanistan border. Sheila Bagh recorded minus 6 degrees Celsius while Ziarat, Toba Achakzai, Khanuzai and Qila Abdullah recorded minus 5 degrees Celsius.

In Chaman, Pashin, Muslim Bagh and Kan Mehtarzai, the temperature dropped to minus 3 degrees Celsius.

Due to severe cold, water has frozen in drains and streets in different areas. PDMA has predicted that the severity of cold weather will increase further in Northeast and Central Balochistan from tomorrow.

According to the health department, the dry and cold weather also led to the spread of seasonal diseases in many areas. A large number of children have been affected by these diseases, raising health concerns in the region.

The PMD has predicted further intensification of the ongoing cold wave in the country under the influence of rain and snowfall from December 7 on Friday.

Meteorological Department says that light rain and thundershower will occur in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Astoor, Ghazar, Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Neelam from today. It is possible. Wadi, Muzaffarabad, Rawalkot, Kotli, Haveli and Bagh till December 11 with occasional breaks.

Some parts of Punjab are also expected to witness similar conditions today and tomorrow (December 8).

The Meteorological Department asked all concerned authorities to remain alert and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation, especially in northern areas.
