In a shocking incident, a woman who mysteriously disappeared from Britain’s West Midlands in 1972 has finally been found alive.
Sheila Fox mysteriously disappeared from Coventry city center when she was just 16 amid suspicions she may have been in a relationship with an older man. Mail online Reported
Police reported at the time that the girl was living with her parents and was “open-minded” about her whereabouts.
For a long time, police officials hoped that Fox might have gotten out of the area and not told anyone.
However, authorities launched a renewed appeal last week after decades of missing clues.
After all this time, it only took one photo dug up by the police to finally find Fox. Authorities confirmed today that Fox, now 68, was in another part of the country and had been spoken to.
A police spokesman said: “We are pleased to announce the conclusion of one of West Midlands Police’s longest running missing person investigations.”
“We recently published a new appeal to help find Sheila Fox, who went missing from Coventry in 1972. Investigating officers found only one photograph of Sheila from around the time of her disappearance. And it was published on our website and social media.”
The spokesman said that within hours of the appeal, members of the public came in contact with information which led to police reaching out to him.
“With Sheila confirmed safe and well and in another part of the country, one of the longest running missing persons cases we have ever investigated was finally solved.”
Detective Sergeant Gina Shaw, from the force’s cold case investigation team, added: “We are delighted to have found Sheila after more than five decades.”
“We looked through every piece of evidence and we were able to find Sheila’s photo. We are a small team of officers and I would like to acknowledge the work of DC Sean Reeve, who, with the help of the public, solved this case. managed to do,” said the detective.
