Liam Payne’s father Geoff is in trouble.
Geoff Payne is facing a defamation lawsuit from the late musician’s friend Roger Norris.
The lawsuit, filed Jan. 15 in Florida, claims Geoff made false statements that significantly harmed Norris, resulting in more than $10 million in damages.
Complaint received by peoplealleged that Geoff’s statements misrepresented Norris’ relationship with Liam and contained “material inaccuracies” and information that was not based on personal information.
The 263-page complaint added that Geoff’s disclosures to Argentine authorities, which were accessed in Florida, caused Norris widespread reputational damage in the region.
“Jeff needs to back off on this. [sworn] statement as he well knows I was not Liam’s nurse or caretaker,” Norris said Rolling Stone. He emphasized that Liam was a “dear friend” and not someone he was legally bound to look after.
Norris says proceeds from the lawsuit will benefit Liam’s son, Bear, and denies claims he was part of any care group for Liam. The case stems from statements made by Geoff in October 2024, which Norris claims are false, saying he never agreed to be Liam’s carer.
Geoff Payne and Liam’s estate have denied the defamation allegations, saying they support Geoff and believe Norris’ actions are an attempt to interfere with the ongoing police investigation.
