Rees-Zammit was known for his speed and agility on the rugby field, traits coveted in the NFL.
But the 23-year-old’s transition hasn’t been without its challenges, with Rees-Zammit already playing multiple positions, including running back and on special teams.
Schecter believes wide receiver may be his best fit.
“Ultimately, it’s all about developing his football IQ,” Schecter explained.
“He needs to learn as much as he can about the game. It’s been tough for him, but his athleticism is undeniable, and that will give him a solid foundation.”
With a new head coach in Jacksonville, Rees-Zammit’s future in the NFL is uncertain.
The Jaguars have opted not to sign Rees-Zammit to a reserve/future contract, which franchises can use to prevent players from being dealt to other teams.
As a result, the former Wells wing is eligible to sign with any of the NFL’s 32 teams, but could find himself back with Jacksonville in the future.
“Their season is over now and they don’t really start going back until late March, early April,” Schecter said.
“There’s really no one in the building right now but he’s doing everything he can to make sure he can either re-sign with the Jags or find another team.”
