According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the federal government has increased the price of petrol by Rs 3 47 paise per liter for the next fortnight.
According to the notification of the Finance Division, the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) per liter has been increased by Rs 2.61 from Rs 258.34 to Rs 260.95.
“The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has fixed consumer prices of petroleum products in the last fortnight in view of fluctuations in the international market,” read the official notification.
It said the new fuel prices will be effective from January 16.
The rise in petroleum prices is due to the rise in international oil prices, which is due to US restrictions on oil exports to China and India.
In the wake of the sanctions, crude oil prices have surged above $81 a barrel — the highest since August 2024 — amid concerns over the impact of US shipping restrictions on Russian oil supplies.
Earlier this month, the government had hiked petrol prices by Rs 0.56 per liter on New Year’s Eve for the first fortnight of 2025.
