Getty ImagesPopular Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has undergone surgery and is out of danger after being stabbed at his home, his team has said.
The attack took place on Thursday morning in an upmarket neighborhood in Mumbai, where Khan lives with his family.
City police told BBC Marathi that the actor was injured sometime after midnight following a scuffle between an intruder and an unidentified person.
Police have formed teams to investigate the matter.
“Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently recovering and doctors are monitoring his progress,” Khan’s team said in a statement.
Khan is married to Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan and the couple has two children. The family has yet to make a public statement, but Khan’s team said he is safe.
Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday morning.
Neeraj Atmani, the hospital’s chief operating officer, told BBC Marathi that Khan had six stab wounds, two of which were deep.
The exact details of the attack are still unclear. Police have said that “an unknown person” entered the actor’s house.
“Following this, an altercation broke out between Khan and the intruder,” Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam told BBC Marathi.
Khan’s team said it was a case of “attempted theft” but did not share further details.
“We request the media and fans to be patient. This is a police matter,” he said.

Khan, who made his Bollywood debut in 1993, works primarily in Hindi cinema and is known for his quick wit and comic timing.
His popular films include romantic comedies like Dil Chata Hai and Kal Ho Naa Ho and recent action dramas like Tana Ji and Deora: Part 1.
His role in Omkara, a critically acclaimed 2006 adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello, was widely acclaimed.
Khan hails from a family of former Nawabs who ruled Pataudi, a small princely state on the outskirts of Delhi, and married into a family of film stars.
His father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was a cricketer who captained the Indian team in the 1960s. His mother Sharmila Tagore is a veteran actress who has acted in prominent Hindi and Bengali films since the age of 14.
His sister Soha Ali Khan also worked in films for a few years.
Khan’s wife Kareena belongs to a family of famous actors, directors and producers who have been active in Bollywood for almost a century.
