Prince William attended his first royal engagement of the year just a day after his wife Kate Middleton made her first appearance of the year.
The Prince of Wales, who became the College of Paramedics’ new patron, arrived in Birmingham on Wednesday and attended the facility’s first emergency and critical care conference to mark a major development for the college.
Kensington Palace shared highlights of William’s visit and also shared a statement.
“Paramedics and emergency services personnel are adaptable, multi-skilled and critical, know how to work under pressure,” it reads. “Proud to be a patron of @ParamedicsUK. An honor today to spend time with first responders whose work saves lives every day.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ office also shared a glimpse of William’s heartfelt speech to service workers as he took up his new role.
“Often referred to as the Swiss Army Knife of front-line healthcare, paramedics and those involved in emergency services are adaptable, multi-skilled and, importantly, know how to work under pressure,” William said.
“In this country, we are greatly indebted and grateful to our emergency services. As a paramedic in any form, your job is uniquely demanding and I thank you for all you do. Can’t thank you enough.”
