11 Unexpected Things You Can Make in Your Air Fryer

Air Fryers: Are They Worth It?

As the name suggests, an air fryer would be good for things like chips and fried chicken – and it is (we’re looking at you, ). But there’s a whole array of other things you can do with this handy benchtop appliance. From giant choc chip cookies to ‘cheats falafels’, here are some great alternative air fryer recipes.
Recipe creator Becky Axel calls it the ‘cheat’s version’ because it uses canned chickpeas instead of soaked, dry chickpeas. That’s not the only thing that makes them a little easier for those short on time: a food processor makes them a breeze, and an air fryer is quick to use, too. “Is it a biscuit or is it a dessert? Either way, this air fryer recipe is delicious!” Katie Greenward says of her beautiful pink creation. (And there’s a bonus: Greenward says leftover rhubarb syrup can be drizzled over vanilla ice cream or added to cocktails.) Greenward’s recipe shows how great an air fryer can be for baking. (Especially in the summer, when you probably don’t want to. The oven is heating up your house).

Crispy on top and gooey in the middle… these are best served hot! Easier than making individual cookies, these giant ones can be cut into wedges for serving. You can make the dough ahead and refrigerate it, then bake the cookies to order (the directions make two large cookies).

“We all love delicious fried rice, and you can add literally any ingredient to a rice dish to make it your own, but my ‘Dody’s Chaotic Rice Dish’ is simple and easy to make. The inspiration comes from Western Chinese food,” says Daniel Doody of her recipe, which uses an air fryer to cook tender, marinated chicken thigh fillets.

When you air-fry the ever-popular cottage cheese crumble, you get these little bombs of deliciousness! Serve these crisp-coated halloumi bites as a party food, or in a salad for lunch. (And good news if gluten isn’t your friend – this recipe comes from gluten-free recipe writer Becky Axel, so it uses gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs).
