A two-year-old boy has died after a “fatal medical incident” at a nursery, police have said.
Merseyside Police said detectives are investigating the child’s death after emergency services were called to Early Learners’ Day Nursery in Bootle, Merseyside, just after 12:30 GMT on Tuesday.
The boy was taken to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The force said the full circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be established.
He added that the boy’s family is being assisted by specialist officers.
Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that an investigation is ongoing following reports of a two-year-old boy suffering a fatal medical event at a children’s nursery in Bootle.
“An investigation has been launched to ascertain the full circumstances and cause of death.”
The nursery on Hawthorn Road is currently closed.
