Travis Kelce and his pal Patrick Mahomes, who have had star performers this NFL season, will reportedly sit out the wild card playoff games starting this weekend.
The Kansas City Chiefs, who have back-to-back wins under their belt, secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC after their Christmas 2024 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I thought it was a whole team performance. The defense grew, the offense grew. [and] Everybody had their own take on the game,” Chiefs quarterback Mahomes told the press after the game. “I told my pregnant wife. [Brittany Mahomes] I was going to get the number 1 seed, so we could have a baby.
The No. 1 seed does not have to play in the wild-card game. The other top seven teams in the conference will play, while the Chiefs and Lions get what is being billed as a hard-earned day. For Patrick, it’s also when his wife is about to give birth to their third child.
Kelce’s team will play the winner of one of the wild card games in the divisional playoff round later this month.
The divisional winners next face each other in an attempt to advance to the conference championship, which determines the NFC and AFC teams that will play in the 2025 Super Bowl.
Super Bowl LIX will be held on Sunday, February 9 in New Orleans, and will feature a special performance by Post Malone.
If another win is in the cards for the Chiefs, they will make history with three consecutive Super Bowl trophies.
