Keeping up with fitness trends can sometimes be overwhelming for those in their early stages. But don’t worry because you don’t have to follow these methods.
According to a new study, taking a short walk can do wonders.
According to research, 11 minutes of moderate exercise per day can reduce your risk of cancer, heart disease or premature death.
Even if it’s too much, a five-minute walk a day can provide health benefits, said Dr. Andrew Freeman.
Dr. Freeman, director of cardiovascular prevention and wellness at National Jewish Health, recommends 30 minutes of exercise a day. This can include brisk walking and weight lifting.
But those who have just started may not find it viable, he said. Freeman suggests incorporating movement into your daily routine by engaging in any type of exercise, even if it’s just a five-minute walk.
You can walk to the mall or gym or take the stairs. According to the health expert, Dana Santas also suggested going for a walk with friends.
“Most malls open their doors early (before the actual stores open) to allow pedestrians to enter by walking laps around the interior surfaces of the mall,” Santas said.
Dr. Freeman also suggests completing a morning walk to start your day on a positive note. He added that walking is not only good for your body but also for your mental health as it can help you quit smoking, reduce anxiety and depression.
