LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested three persons accused of editing and sharing fake photos of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Yes, FIA sources revealed on Friday.
According to sources, 20 social media accounts spreading fake photos have been identified. As raids are underway to arrest the remaining suspects, authorities are stepping up efforts to curb the spread of misinformation.
A joint investigation team consisting of deputy directors of Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad has been formed under the chairmanship of Additional Director Sarfraz Chaudhry to supervise the inquiry.
After Maryam Nawaz’s photos went viral on social media, an investigation was initiated after a formal request from the Punjab government. The cyber crime wing of FIA is tracking the culprits across the country including Lahore and taking legal action against them.
The FIA has warned that those involved in creating and spreading false content will face strict legal action, stressing the agency’s commitment to fight cybercrime and maintain the integrity of public figures.
