COLLEGE PARK, Miss. — Three days after tearing up his team after a home loss Michigan, UCLA Coach McCronin turned his anger toward the officials.
Cronin was ejected with 5:11 left in the one. 79-61 loss But Maryland On Friday night, and he hasn’t backed down since, he expressed displeasure with the incumbent and the Big Ten scheduling. He was much softer on his own players than he had been earlier this week, when he Called them “soft” and “deceptive”. After a 19-point loss to Michigan. This time he felt that he was in an unfair situation.
“In defense of our guys, I didn’t think we were given a chance to win in the second half,” Cronin said. “I gave permission. [official] Jeff Anderson knows, I hit the rain.”
Cronin’s rant came with UCLA down nine as Maryland mounted a comeback. He was given two quick technicalities and sent on his way.
“I can’t remember the last time I did a technical,” he said. I had enough. SC And Oregon But it was funny.
“And not to take anything away from Maryland, which is a very good team at home, but you’ve got to defend my players. If you can bowl guys over and cut their arms, they’re going to have to go. can be removed, it is difficult to commit any crime.”
Technical fouls cost Maryland six points, and the game became a rout.
“We needed some stronger officials in the game in my opinion, but we needed to be stronger with the ball,” Cronin said. “In defense of our players, we didn’t have much time, we had a day to prepare.”
This is UCLA’s first season in the Big Ten, along with USC, Oregon and Washington. A rough ride was a given when those teams joined, and the Bruins are dealing with it now.
They played. Nebraska On January 4, returns home for a game with Michigan, then leaves for a visit to Maryland and Rutgers.
“We had to travel on a five-hour and 50-minute flight. They got home on Sunday. They had two extra days,” Cronin said. “Now Rutgers is sitting at home and they’ve got an extra day. I haven’t mapped it all out, but I’m sure it will swing our way at some point.”
After returning to Rutgers, UCLA will play seven straight games from Jan. 17 to Feb. 8 — five home games plus trips to Washington and USC.
“I get it. It’s probably practically impossible to schedule, but I just know it hasn’t been good for us,” Cronin said. “Michigan was in LA three days before us.”
This has been an especially difficult week given the wildfires causing so much chaos in the Los Angeles area. After he was pulled out, Cronin said, he quickly went to check an app that provides alerts.
“My house is getting very close to empty,” he said. “When I got thrown out, I immediately went to my phone.”
